West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Saturday that was to start a TV station and a newspaper to meet the needs of the state government. The proposal comes as an effort to negate the negative picture of Mamata Banerjee drawn and his government, and to highlight the development work done by the state government.
Banerjee recently made headlines several times, for all the wrong reasons, when imprisoned Sarothi Partho Ray, a molecular biologist and professor at Jadavpur University Ambikesh Mahapatra. Ray was sent to jail for his alleged role in protests against evictions of slums in Calcutta, while Professor Mahapatra was also arrested for the transmission of a cartoon controversy with the Prime Minister.
